Ed Sheeran is known for his diverse career that dates back to his first self-titled album in 2006. Rather than being exposed to television and video games from a young age, Sheeran’s parents presented him with an acoustic guitar, forcing his creativity. Sheeran created an image for himself, being known for his original small gigs in London, to supporting ‘Example’ on his tour, to producing his albums today. This means his entire reputation is built around his presence in the music industry. At the end of 2014, Sheeran told Daily Mail Australia “I’ve recorded 87 more [songs]. But written? Hundreds.” Ed Sheeran also writes for artists such as Taylor Swift, One Direction and Christina Aguilera. His pieces are inspired by societal factors, as well as his personal experiences, such as Homeless which was inspired the time he slept out on the streets near Buckingham Palace. His pieces are relatable for his audiences, particularly targeting their emotions. Therefore, it is clear that the sound that Sheeran is known for creating is influenced by society and personal experiences.
